Who doesn’t love the legendary Roald Dahl’s book Charlie & Chocolate Factory from 1964 that told the story of a magical candy factory and its eccentric and mysterious owner Willy Wonka. A chocolate river, gum that is a whole turkey dinner, never-ending gobstoppers, and, of course, the singing and dancing oompa-loompas are just a few of the surprises that waited inside the doors of the famously secretive factory.
Of course, I don’t live and work in a fairy tale candy empire. There are daily complete and total failures, constant hard work, family disputes, and an unfortunate lack of oompa-loompas.

Working full time, three kids, family strife (youngest of five – read blog on shit sandwiches http://tinyurl.com/ohp79pb), the newly announced divorced and life on my own. I keep thinking back to the old Calgon commercials; wow that ad agency nailed it.

To create an iconic slogan that has lasted through the decades is quite an achievement. What I am most grateful for is that you know you are not the only one. No doubt they were pulling their hair out during that campaign development and launch – they just got to freely enjoy martinis at lunch to take the edge off.
My protein shake doesn’t seem to have the same calming effect, so I have a different solution. Meet the two new loves in my life. To say these two little kittens saved me from losing my mittens, is an understatement.
These two furry felines remind me of having my three babies. Communication only through actions, cuddles and small noises of endearment to let me know they are happy. It must be love when you talk baby talk while cleaning up their poop, right?
Sometimes I don’t need more words. Smokey and Pawz know this and respond purrrrfectly. (Cracking myself up on that one.)
Does this make me an official crazy cat lady? Maybe, but if a ‘cat lady’ is the worst thing I shall be called, then bring it on. I’m in love and I don’t care who knows about it!
So this Valentine’s Day be sure to let the people and pets around you know how much you love them. Maybe you don’t need to go overboard with chocolates, flowers or mice filled with cat nip, but the simple acts of kindness and expressions of gratitude keep everyone smiling and feeling content.
