Hold onto your overalls, people. It gives me great pleasure to announce that today is…wait for it…National Pig Pen Day!
That can only mean this blog is on the fast track to global recognition. Who knew stardom would come so fast and easy? The chief goal of this day is to explain to people that it is ok to leave your bed unmade, the dishes in the sink, the laundry piled up and let your hair air dry with zero styling products .
How ironic that this incredible celebration (soon to be federal holiday) falls on the very popular, National Custodial Workers Day and smack in the middle of National Coffee Day on September 29 and National Vodka Day on October 4; two of Pig Pen’s favorite fluids. It’s also name your car day. Check out more hilarious national days here: http://all-funny.info/real-list-of-national-days
Many people ask “Just how does one go about creating a “Day”? That is a great question.
A truly “National” day is literally an act of Congress and takes a lot of work. The first step is to contact your local congress person. Once you have their attention, you have to create the proposal and hopefully it will get onto the congressional agenda before too many years has passed. If you are intent on doing it and have the patience, it can be done.
Other “Days” are created by companies, special interest groups, local governments, sports teams, and others by simply declaring it so. It seems some of these “days” are created because there isn’t anything going on a particular day and eCards needed to find new ways to stay in business. The vast majority of these are local, one-time events that do not capture much attention and are soon forgotten. Official or not, a number of these take hold, and show up year after year.
Sue-wee! Next year’s National Pig Pen Day is going to be off the hook!
So if you are looking to build awareness, sell products and services or just looking to create a PR plug, declare a national day!
Tip of the week: I have my favorite liquor store, Total Wine, to thank for this blog topic. They sent the email announcing that October 4 is National Vodka Day and included cocktail recipes http://tinyurl.com/9ghxpek Well done and cheers!
